Discovering My Passion for Coffee at the Britt Coffee Tour in Heredia
I never realized how much I loved coffee until my visit to the Britt Coffee Tour in Heredia. This experience sparked a passion for coffee that I never knew I had! Since then, I've become an avid fan, especially after learning directly from the professionals how coffee should be made. Now, every time I brew Britt coffee at home, I feel like I’m tasting the essence of Costa Rica.
From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and a palpable enthusiasm for coffee. The tour starts with the ringing of a bell, signaling the beginning of an immersive journey into the world of coffee. The guides shared the fascinating history of coffee—how it was discovered and made its way to Costa Rica—while keeping things light and fun with a few jokes sprinkled in.
A Walk Through Costa Rican Coffee Culture
The tour takes you through lush green fields where we learned about the regions where Costa Rica's finest coffee is grown. One of my favorite parts was seeing the coffee plant up close, from the little seed to the fully grown plant that produces the beans we all know and love. Along the way, we tasted a variety of regional coffees—each one with its unique flavor, capturing different aspects of Costa Rica’s rich landscapes.
A Unique Surprise and Sweet Treats
The grand finale of the tour was a fun surprise in the theater (I won’t spoil it for you—you’ll just have to visit to find out!). Afterward, we were treated to a stop at the factory store where I indulged in delicious Britt chocolates and, of course, sampled even more coffee. This was where my love affair with Britt coffee truly began- mostly because I immediately bought 6 bags of coffee!! (They had a good deal going on)

A Passion Rooted in Sustainability
One of the things that stood out to me during the tour was Britt's commitment to sustainability. From their early days as the first gourmet coffee roaster in Costa Rica, Britt has been dedicated to producing exceptional coffee while caring for the environment and supporting local communities. They were pioneers in organic coffee farming and continue to use sustainable agricultural practices. It’s inspiring to see how a company can balance quality, sustainability, and social responsibility so well.
The Britt Coffee Legacy
Britt Coffee was founded in 1985, and before that, the best coffee beans from Costa Rica were usually exported. Britt changed that, ensuring that Costa Ricans could also enjoy the finest gourmet coffee produced on their land. Since then, they’ve introduced millions of people to the unique flavors of Costa Rican coffee through their plantation tours and coffee products.
After my experience, I’m hooked! I now use Britt Coffee at home, and every cup brings me back to that moment in Heredia, surrounded by vibrant fields and the warm Costa Rican sun.
If you're visiting Costa Rica, the Britt Coffee Tour is a must-do, and don’t forget to stock up on their coffee during your visit—or order it online if you can’t wait to experience the flavor of Costa Rica in your own home!
